The West

Our island is very special place. If re-elected I will continue to work hard for the good of the island - we have to ensure we are successful without spoiling what we have. I have been involved in many issues over the last four years and the ‘Save our Rural Post Offices’ campaign, with your support, gained over 5,000 signatures and was a great success.

Industry and commerce. Zero-10.

I voted for the Parkinson amendment. There was in my view no reason for us to be the cheapest in the market place on tax. We did have to change to remain competitive.

The finance industry will be our future for the next 10 to 20 years. It will be the income and driver of the economy and we must enable it to prosper. We also need to diversify the economy. The raiding of our west-coast fish stocks is unacceptable. We should make more use of locally grown produce.

Environment & energy.

We have some stunning countryside, cliffs and beaches. We must ensure they remain clean and unspoilt. Sea-level rise is a serious threat and we must start strengthening our costal areas. We need to play our part in combating global warming, preparing for the effects and revaluating our demand for the planets resources. As fuel costs rise, we need to look at the opportunity to harness tidal power and conserving our usage of power.

Law and order

Although we have a very safe island, I have vigorously campaigned for the return of community policing. Our crime figures have risen continually and this is unacceptable. What is important is the standard we set for behaviour in our community.
