Geoff Mahy
I have endeavoured to keep my promises of 2004 and I have served on the Home Department - elected minister in March 2007, Government Business Plan Project Team, Social Security Department, Public Sector Remuneration Committee plus a number of additional working parties and Policy Council steering groups.
Prior to 2004, I was head teacher of St. Martin’s Primary School for twenty-two years.
As a member of the States of Deliberation, I have strived to research all matters in order to make the right judgements.
For Guernsey to fund quality health services for all, high standards of education for young people and to take firm action against crime and the causes of crime, plus all the other public services, it is vitally important that we ensure our wealth generating sources are kept strong. I voted for zero-ten because, after consulting with many knowledgeable people I was convinced that there was no long-term viable alternative for safeguarding our economy and people’s jobs.
If we, the community of Guernsey, do not earn, we cannot invest in our public services.
As one of four deputies on the Government Business Plan Project Team, I believe in the importance of corporate priorities and controlled spending.
My targets for the next House are:
Appoint sufficient officers to maintain Community Policing.
Upgrade the airport runway and associated safety equipment.
Build solid-waste and sewage treatment plants.*
Provide quality secondary school buildings for all island students.
Improve mental health facilities and support services.
Secure nursery education for all pre-school children*
Obtain renewable energy sources from the strong currents around our shores.*
* Further consideration for a public/private partnership may be required in order for taxes not to be increased.
With your backing, I shall continue to be a hardworking, full-time deputy, totally committed to attending all States and associated meetings.
