The environment, education and population: all general things to be on a candidates mind during election time. So what makes me different from the rest of the candidates currently knocking on your door? Because I am young, fresh, passionate and am out to look after this island we call home. Being young may mean that I do not have the life experience that some candidates may boast, but what I lack in this area I make up for in having clear lateral thinking with no business or other agendas.
After studying environmental science it really hit home how important it is to respect not just our island but our world. As such I believe that the pumping of nitrates, phosphates and other waste directly into the sea is wrong. It is time Guernsey had its own sewage plant. Along with this we need to set up development of our own tidal-power system: a major opportunity to diversify our economy and become more environmentally friendly. It is also known that an energy-from-waste-plant is required. It may not be viable at the current time due to the financial strife the new house shall inherit. Other alternatives will need to be decided, and decided fast. Education is also important to me. Having only recently left the education system I am able to understand what is right and wrong from the inside.
The bottom line is that the younger generation is fed up of being overlooked by a government made up of so many members nearing retirement. We need experience in the States: this cannot be denied. I have found myself asked many different questions while knocking on doors and now I have one for you. Who could be better to look out for the next generation than somebody who’s in it?
