About Voice For Victims
Voice for Victims is a joint campaign between The Guernsey Press and Zibby Yates aimed at promoting the rights of those affected by child sexual abuse.
Through increased awareness, demanding that the protection of children and help for victims be prioritised, and fighting for the adoption of a zero tolerance approach to these types of crimes, Voice for Victims aims to combat the silence that allows the sexual abuse of children to persist.
Voice for Victims will campaign for the following:
- More to be done to equip children and parents with tools and knowledge needed to help prevent child sex abuse.
- Effective, proportionate, transparent and dissuasive sanctions against those who commit child sexual abuse, and sentencing that takes into account physical or psychological damage done to victims.
- Greater measures to enable victims to be heard in all aspects of judicial proceedings, as well as the power to choose the means of having their views, needs and concerns presented.
- The creation of necessary legislative or other measures which do more to assist victims, in the short and long term, in their physical and psychological recovery.
Through a sustained month-long promotion in The Guernsey Press, including both features and news items, and a petition, the goal is to present 10,000 signatures to the States of Deliberation’s newly elected House, with a view that they will act under the weight of public feeling.
