A GUERNSEY family yesterday recalled being in the middle of the New Zealand earthquake – and surviving.

Boulders crashed down around their house, buildings crumbled and the roads turned to waves.

John and Anna Mahy moved to Lyttelton Harbour Basin – close to centre of the quake – five years ago with their three children.

Mrs Mahy said they were horrified by the damage to their ‘beloved beautiful city’.
