A GUERNSEYMAN living in Japan has told of a terrifying experience inside one Tokyo’s largest towers when Friday’s earthquake hit.

Martin Le Tissier, who has lived in the city for four-and-a-half years, said the building ‘swayed alarmingly, like a ship at sea’ for about five minutes.

The 38-year-old, whose wife, Junko, is Japanese, works in a bank on the 40th floor of Tokyo Midtown, one of the largest and most modern towers in Tokyo.

‘Out of the window we could see smoke starting to rise from a fire and things falling from buildings. People here are used to quakes, so there was no panic, but everyone agreed it must have been a big one,’ he said.
