Teen crash driver died from multiple injuries

Thursday 1st April 2004, 12:00AM BST.

THE teenager killed in a road accident last week died from multiple injuries. Alex Bishop, 19, was the driver of a car that struck a wall along La Route des Coutanchez last Monday.

An inquest into his death was yesterday opened and adjourned sine die, pending further police inquiries.

Consultant pathologist Dr Catherine Chinyama said that Mr Bishop died from multiple injuries resulting from the accident. The fatality would have been abrupt and with minimal distress.

No traces of alcohol were found and samples have been sent to the UK for further analysis.

There was discussion at the inquest about in which parish the accident had occurred, but Magistrate Russell Finch ruled that it was St Peter Port, not St Sampson’s.

Mr Bishop lived at 6, Beau Repaire, Rue a l’Or, St Peter Port.

Passenger Sophie McPhee, 16, was taken to hospital with serious fractures to her lower body.

She was yesterday in a comfortable condition in a Bristol hospital.

Sophie is awaiting an operation that may take place today.
