First New Zealander is called to the island Bar

THE first New Zealander to be called to the Guernsey Bar has been sworn in as an advocate. Marcus Leese, who works for Ogier and Le Masurier, was welcomed by the Bailiff Sir de Vic Carey and HM Comptroller Howard Roberts.
Mr Leese was born and educated in New Zealand where he obtained bachelor of law and bachelor of commerce degrees with distinction from the University of Auckland.
He was the second lawyer to join the Guernsey office of Ogier and Le Masurier in 1999, where he works in the fiduciary and legal groups.
Mr Leese has considerable experience in trust and tax consulting for corporate and individual clients as well as significant expertise in the unit trust, superannuation and collective fund sectors.
Ogier and Le Masurier partner Roger Le Tissier said: ‘Marcus has been with the Guernsey firm since its early years.
‘His experience has been a valuable asset, now more than ever with the truly international multi-jurisdictional focus of the Ogier Group.’
