Guy and Marquis in record form

Wednesday 5th May 2004, 12:00AM BST.

TWO records were broken at the Guernsey Motorcycle and Car Club’s HillClimb on Monday. Despite the unseasonal weather, Le Val des Terres remained dry for the competitors and Chris Guy and Steve Marquis took advantage to set new marks in their respective classes.

Guy came close to breaking Shane Le Poidevin’s best of 43.01sec. in the production saloons up to 1,600cc in his first official run of the day, but he had to wait until his final climb to clock 42.56sec. in his Peugeot GTi 205.

Le Poidevin was runner-up in the class.

Marquis also produced his excellent run in his last climb of the meeting.

Having set a record of 42.2sec. in the sand racing saloons up to 1,400cc last month, he took another 0.08sec. off his best in his Suzuki at this latest meeting.

But the fastest time of the day was registered by Mark King.

He took his Rocksand Special up Le Val des Terres in 32.33sec., just 0.12sec. slower than his own record in the sand racing non tranaxle class.

King was only 0.02sec. quicker than Jersey karter Nigel Davis in his Anderson Rotax. They were two of seven drivers to record sub-33sec. times.
