Boscher hat-trick stuns Sylvans

Thursday 6th May 2004, 12:00AM BST.

North 5, Sylvans 1

DUDLEY BOSCHER stunned Sylvans at the Track last night with a superbly taken hat-trick as North secured a Jackson League and cup double. North never let Sylvans settle and ran up a 3-0 lead inside 13 minutes of referee Ian Le Prevost’s first whistle.

Boscher opened the scoring after three minutes when Kyle Stone pulled the ball back from the touchline and the 34-year-old pounced to stab the ball into the net.

Minutes later the North stalwart scored a fine second and Sylvans, who boasted Tristram Morgan, Matt Warren, and Adie Exall in their squad, were still organising their defence when the third goal was being picked out of their net.

A free kick from Rod Elmy, arguably the best player on the pitch, found Kyle Stone unmarked in the area and the youngster headed over a stranded Mollet to put the game beyond the westerners.

Morgan prompted his team-mates into applying themselves more and a good run from him ended with him playing a subtle pass to Craig Le Prevost, but the big midfielder ballooned his shot over the bar.

The second period was kinder to Clive Bateman’s men and they slowly started to find their feet and when Morgan turned his hand at being a makeshift centre forward they started to look a threat.

It was, indeed, a pleasure to watch Morgan play the game with a smile on his face.

He showed what a quality player he is when he received the ball with his back to goal and superbly turned his marker to rifle the ball past a startled Steve Gibson to make it 3-1.

But any ideas Sylvans had of getting back into the game were stifled by Boscher, who completed his hat-trick after good work from Ollie McKenzie and Blake Smith allowed him to ghost in and score easily.

The goal of the game was reserved for substitute Jason Le Ray, who shot from fully 30 yards and the moment it left his foot the cries went up for a goal.

Match winner Boscher was quick to praise the efforts of the youngsters in the North side.

‘They are quality and I am so pleased for the club, and to be honest I looked at the Sylvans team before kick-off tonight and thought we would struggle.’
