TRAILERS like those used by the British Army and Nato could soon be a common sight on Guernsey roads. They are being used by newly formed Wizard Trailers to transport of a wide variety of goods throughout the island and offer an economical alternative to hiring a skip.

‘When we see activity on either building sites or domestic gardens, there are invariably goods to go in and rubbish to come out,’ said Max Carling, one of Wizard’s co-founders.

‘Giro, the goods in and rubbish out system, is now in place to address this need.’

At the outset, clients have the choice of three types of trailer – open, for bulky heavy items; caged, more suited to less-bulky garden refuse and horticultural waste or domestic items, and the minor works wagon, which is fitted with its own concrete mixer.

The trailers can carry up to one ton.

‘Householders no longer have to mess up their cars struggling to transport bulky items from supplier to their homes and then separately ordering some form of skip or debris collection to deal with the waste,’ said Mr Carling.

‘Lately, we’ve been hauling everything from furniture to washing machines and garden waste.’

For £5 Wizard will deliver anywhere in the island on the understanding that the trailer is retained for a period of four hours to five days and filled with debris for removal. The latter part of the service costs from £29.50 and with each hire, a donation goes to Help a Guernsey Child.

The minor works wagon will arrive loaded with a client’s order of sand, stone, cement and slabs.

‘You have just to add water for a patio,’ said Mr Carling.

‘And the big bonus is that on completion, you just load the debris from the project into the same trailer that your materials arrived in and you are done.’

Mr Carling said that the company was a firm believer in relaxation after the work was done.

A promotion means that clients who spend £100 or more can fly to any one of 20 European destinations for £30 per flight from Heathrow. Regular customers could even get cheap flights across the Atlantic.
