Nurdlers snatch Premier title

Friday 14th May 2004, 12:00AM BST.

NURDLERS have retained their Premier League title. The defending champions benefitted from a walkover against Minotaurs while OTTs, who had headed the table until the end of February, suffered at the hands of Irregulars and Nurdlers, giving the last-named a 36 points to 32 advantage.

Alan Le Tocq’s Nurdlers, who had been the most consistent Premier League team, also picked up the highest team aggregate trophy, with 5,456 pins, and the highest team score of 267 pins.

The First Division was equally contested, with Sporting Club, this time, finishing league winners, beating Cobowlers by 34 points to 30.

Both teams are promoted to the Premier Division. Sporting Club also had the highest team aggregate of 5,280 pins and the highest team score of 239.

The Second Division saw three different teams picking up a trophy. Guys ‘n’ Dolls were clear winners of the division on 40 points, six ahead of their nearest rivals, Hotshots, on 34 points.

However, both will play in the First Division next season. Hotshots collected the highest team aggregate with 5,234 pins. The highest team score went to P & Ds who toppled 240 pins.

In the relegation stakes, Topcrats and Minotaurs move down to the First Division, UFOs drop, while a play-off is required between Allsorts, Lungy’s Legends and Newsextra to decide who will join them in the Second Division.

Individually, Second Division players showed the other leagues just how little difference there was between teams.

Keith Le Prevost, of P & Ds, had the highest league score in one game of 56 pins, while team-mate Allan Gaudion had the highest league average of 40 over 13 games, just edging out Dave Allen, of Premier League Dolphins, on 39.94.

The most-consistent female player was Helen Geall, captain of Second Division’s Strikers, who not only had the women’s best average of 37.53 over 15 games, but had the women’s best score of 49 pins.

The Skittles Club Team Knockouts are in the process of taking place but already Esme Legg, of Strikers, has beaten Rose Le Sauvage to become women’s individual champion, while Colin Veron, of Teknocrats, beat club president Jeff Guilbert, of Sappers, to become men’s equivalent.

Mixed pairs champions are Shaun Martel and partner Claire Symes who saw off Simon French and Julie Fallaize in the final. Women’s four-a-side champions are the Dolls who had victory over Motorollers in the final.
