KYLIE ROBILLIARD’S athletics career could be boosted by a move to Loughborough. Following an interview Robilliard, 16 next month, has been offered a two-year scholarship at a Loughborough college where she will be able to receive additional training and expert coaching on a more regular basis.

Meanwhile, the England sprint hurdler has just returned from a Gifted and Talented in Sport national under-18 training camp at Loughborough University.

The camp, supported by the Youth Sport Trust and Department of Education and Skills, was organised by UK Athletics for the 40 teenagers deemed most capable of reaching international standards.

‘It was brilliant,’ said Robilliard’s mother, Michelle, who accompanied her daughter. ‘She learned so much,’ she added.

Robilliard, who was the UK’s outstanding under-17 sprint hurdler last summer, received advice from, among others, Martin Rush, manager of the Norwich Union Great Britain and Northern Ireland team at this summer’s IAAF World Junior Championships in Italy.

Also present were top physiotherapist Chris Price and sports psychologist Dr Will James from the EIS at Bath; David Herbert, UK Athletics’ anti-doping coordinator and Trevor Frecknall of the UK Athletics communications department.

The training group were also able to fire questions at European Youth Olympics 100m champion Wade Bennett-Jackson and World Youth Championships finalists Charlotte Browning and Carly Ann Wenham at a session hosted by former international sprinter Paula Dunn, now the UK Athletics Head of Talent ID.

Topics ranged from what it’s like to compete in front of thousands to having noisy room-mates and dealing with the media.

The youngsters also enjoyed training sessions each day with personal coaches supported by UK Athletics staff, using both the UK Athletics East Midlands High Performance Centre and the Loughborough outdoor facilities.

Robilliard will be in the large GIAAC contingent at this weekend’s Hampshire county championships
