Tardif tries his luck in Spain
Tuesday 18th May 2004, 12:00AM BST.
CHRIS TARDIF has flown to Cadiz for a week-long trial with the Spanish Second Division club. The Guernseyman will be released by Premiership team Portsmouth at the end of his contract this summer and has been looking for a new club for several months.
Cadiz are currently searching for a first-choice goalkeeper and Tardif has postponed talks with Oxford United over a possible move in order to visit the Spanish outfit.
‘Oxford wanted me to go up there for talks today, but I said I wanted to wait and go to Spain first and see how that goes.
‘If nothing happens there, I have talks with Oxford planned when I come back,’ he said.
Tardif admitted, though, that the English Third Division club would be a more probable destination.
Graham Rix, the Oxford manager, is an admirer of the Sarnian from their days together at Pompey and the two have remained friends since Rix left the south-coast outfit.
‘My aim for next season is to be playing regular first team football and I know that Oxford are interested.
‘Oxford is the more likely deal to happen,’ Tardif said.
