Spike Productions partners Warren Mauger, 31, and Liam Le Guillou, 27, are joining the Mines Awareness Trust to oversee the handover of two working ambulances to Kosovan hospitals.

‘I’m really excited,’ said Mr Mauger. ‘It dovetails for us. Firstly it’s a worthwhile cause and secondly it’s a good opportunity for us to produce one of our first programmes.

‘On the back of this we’ll produce a pilot that we’ll send to all the major broadcasters. It fits in well with what we’re trying to do at Spike.’

The two-man company – the name is based on its partners’ haircuts – aims to find local human-interest subjects and put them onto a national or international stage.

‘We’re not going to focus purely on the Channel Islands but you need to be aware of what is in front of you,’ said Mr Mauger.

‘There are a lot of interesting stories in the islands that warrant a wider audience.’

As former Channel TV employees, both are convinced of the potential success of this venture.

Cameraman Mr Le Guillou – who handles the technical-creative side – learnt his trade at the New York Film Academy.

With nine years’ experience between them, their aim is to grow and to produce more programmes. Mr Mauger believed Spike filled a market niche.

‘There are a lot of stories in the Channel Islands that have a wider impact on a national or international scale. We are best-placed to pick them up and follow them through.’

Mr Mauger and Mr Le Guillou are due to meet UK distributors about a documentary Spike is making on the London-to-Paris rowers.

It could sell in the USA, Britain and France.

‘We’ve got a lot of interest. We are hoping that it will end up in the major broadcasters.

‘There are plenty of other things like this we’re working on. We only have to look at the champions in sport over here.’
