ELEVEN-YEAR-OLD Joshua Lewis set a new championship record in the 100m freestyle of the Beau Sejour Barracudas Swimming Club’s NRG Series. Improving on his personal best by over three seconds, he recorded 1-11.68 to take the record from Jeremy Osborne.

Lewis also placed first in the 100m backstroke, again knocking three seconds off his best to record 1-26.09.

Competing in the masters’ under-40 category, Chris Adkins secured a new record in both events, recording 1-01.17 in the freestyle and 1-13.60 in the backstroke.

Fastest times of the day came from Gail Strobridge in both events for the girls while Thomas Hollingsworth and Ian Hubert won the backstroke and freestyle respectively.

In the youngest age group (nine years), George Moss and Cody Butcher excelled, winning both of their events.

While Moss had quite a tough battle with Gareth Davies and Oliver Nightingale in the boys’ event, Butcher had two comfortable races, finishing well ahead of the field.

The honours were shared in the 10-year-old girls’ section, with Rosie Grimes improving on her lifetime best by five seconds to win the freestyle, while Amy Davies took the backstroke with a seven-second PB to record 1-41.61. David Hall for the boys, however, had it all his own way to take double gold.

Double wins also went to Tiffany Gervaise Brazier (11), Matthew Allen (12/13) and Jeremy Osborne (14-15).

In the 12/13 girls’ section, Hannah Lamb recorded 1-06.02 in the 100m freestyle while Kelsey Russell swam a blistering 100m backstroke to take the title from Lamb in a lifetime best of 1-19.71.

Finally, Robyn Le Friec outswam her opposition in the 14/15 age group to win the freestyle in 1-05.15 – a personal best – with the backstroke title going to Rachael Le Page who just managed to stave off the efforts of Lauren Judge.

The most-improved swimmer, recording the best PBs in both events, was 10-year-old Jodie Rawles, who improved by 15.49 seconds in the backstroke and 14.06 in the freestyle.
