Robert and Campbell claim handicap wins
Thursday 27th May 2004, 12:00AM BST.
STEVE ROBERT and Robert Campbell were two trophy winners at the latest GMC & CC sand-racing meeting at Vazon. Robert won the car handicap for the Rex Collins Trophy after holding off his brother, Ian, and Ben Batiste.
Campbell won the bike handicap for the Slater Trophy.
Anthony Bougourd marked his return after injury to dominate the big-bike class.
But Anthony Queripel was never far behind and Dave Cleal made his customary flying starts only to fade.
In the 250cc class, Mark Allsopp tried a little too hard in the final championship race and came a cropper on the wet bend.
This allowed Campbell through to claim his first championship win.
As for the cars, Batiste pulled clear of Mark Ozanne in the overall championship after three second-place finishes and two victories in the Z-Bird 1100.
Ozanne suffered problems with too much power for the clutch and gearbox and managed to finish only one championship event.
In the women’s championship, title rivals Sue Martel and Emma Parr are still neck and neck after a win and a second place apiece.
