Kylie claims league record

KYLIE ROBILLIARD heads off to the South of England Junior Chamoionships this weekend boosted by news of another record having come her way. Her superb 11.2sec. 80m hurdles winning run for the Ansbacher Channel Islands AC at Bromley last weekend was a new Southern Women’s League best.
‘That’s cool,’ said the champion hurdler yesterday, ahead of another likely meeting with her closest rival, Chloe van Wulven in Watford on Sunday.
Robilliard, who has learned she and fellow CIAC member Erica Bodman will represent Guernsey at this autumn’s Commonwealth Youth Games in Australia, was this week handing out the prizes at her old junior school, La Mare de Carteret Primary.
‘It was really sweet . . . it was lovely,’ said Robilliard, who was surprised to be asked by her former teacher, Lynn Greeno.
Channel Islands have now moved up to sixth place in the 25-team Division One as a result of their second place in Kent and are a mere 36 adrift of league leaders Windsor, Slough, Eton and Harrow, who they meet next up on 5 June.
Meanwhile, in the same league, Island Games 800 silver-medallist Helen Tolcher has been winning useful points for her first-claim track and field club, Herne Hill Harriers.
Tolcher clocked 4-51.9sec. in finishing third at Battersea Park, only a few seconds outside the island record. Another Herne Hill athlete with a strong local link, Alexandra Rusman, clocked 2-24.4 in finishing second in the 800m B race at the same meeting.
