Priaulx wins in Brno again

Monday 31st May 2004, 12:00AM BST.

ANDY PRIAULX won at Brno for the second year running to claw his way back into the thick of the European Touring Car Championship title race. The Guernseyman’s victory in the first of two back-to-back races in the Czech Republic was his third win in four ETCC races and he did so in style.

From second place on the grid, he passed pole man Richard Rydell in a Seat to win by more than three seconds in the 10-lap race.

He also clocked the fastest lap with an average speed of 147.46kph on lap two.

That victory put Priaulx in eighth spot on the grid for the second race, but he picked his way through to take second place behind Dirk Muller, the championship leader.

But it was very nearly first.

By the end of the 10 laps Priaulx was less than half a second behind his German rival, who had started from fourth on the grid.

His tally of 18 points for the day lifted Priaulx into second place in the championship standings, just four behind his fellow BMW driver.

Jorg Muller is third, two points adrift of Priaulx.
