Pair’s personnel achievement

REPORTS about a personal issue within the workplace won two students an award. Claire Marley, of AON Insurance, and Sandra Ferbrache, of Saffery Champness, submitted the consultancy reports as part of the certificate in personnel practice.

‘It suits the candidates, but also the employers, which receive a report that often helps them with establishing a more coherent, competitive and motivated workforce,’ said Guernsey Business School management studies programme manager Steve Park.

‘By having someone who knows a bit about the law and how to run things, it can often stop problems.’

Nearly 100 candidates at the school have successfully completed the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development’s certificate since it started in 1998.

The course is offered on a weekly basis and requires students to complete four assignments – two written and two skilled-based. They must also complete a report into a personal issue within their workplace – a prize, sponsored by OSA Recruitment, is given to the best.

‘Human resources and personnel is an area of much demand and in the past few years, applicants with the certificate have been successful in securing themselves positions,’ said Mr Park.

‘And you can now see jobs that have that as a criterion for employment.’
