EACH of the leading teams of the four divisions of the Guernsey Club de Petanque Summer Doubles lost the third game in round three. In the Green Division, a three-hour match saw leaders A Rite Pair (Anne Robert and Hazel Clitheroe) win the first two, 13-10, 13-7. Then, at 12-12 in the third, mid-table The Pifflers (Lynn Le Poidevin and Mollie Dorey) grabbed the final point to win. A Rite Pair stay top while Pifflers are fourth.

In the White Division, a similar match evolved. Leaders M ‘n’ Him (Paul Duchemin and Bonnie Robert) won the first two games, 13-5, 13-6 against Barfleur (Anne and John Cuthbertson). The third was closer and with the score 11-9 to Me ‘n’ Him, Barfleur shot the cochonet out for four points and the game, 13-11.

M ‘n’ Him remain top, but the dropped game allowed second-placed Little and Large (Rod Green and Graham Machon) to move only a few points behind the leaders.

Remarkably, the same game format was played out in the Gold Division. Joint leaders M ‘n’ M (Marcel Edwards and Mick Peet) won the first two games, 13-4, 13-6, but Les Jehans (Kathie and Neville Jehan) increased their concentration levels and were rewarded with a great 13-6 victory in the third game.

This dropped game put M ‘n’ M into second place and they must be hoping that Les Jehans will do the same damage to the division leaders who they meet in the next round.

It was Jam (Maggie Hosking and substitute Anna Duchemin) who pegged back high-flying Flintstones (Shane Brehaut and Neville T. Jehan), leaders of the Blue Division and previous holders of a 100% win record. Again it was in the third game that damage was done, after the leaders won the first two games 13-6, 13-11. Jam were delighted to win the game 13-5. The Flintstones, despite this surprise defeat, remain clear favourites to win this division.
