Access all areas as OGH goes Wi-Fi
Tuesday 31st August 2004, 12:00AM BST.
WAVE TELECOM has launched its first wireless Internet service at the Old Government House Hotel. The latest Wi-Fi technology enables high-speed access to the Internet without the hassle of cables.
Guests with compatible laptops can connect in all the OGH’s public areas. Hotel manager Simon Courtenay-Warren welcomed the new service.
‘Internet users can now sit in the comfort of our bar or lounge, with a cup of coffee, and conduct their business,’ he said.
Those wishing to use the service can buy scratch cards from the hotel. A £5 card buys one hour’s access whereas a £10 card allows unlimited access for 24 hours. Alternatively users can pay by credit card online for an hourly rate of £7.50.
Wave Telecom plans to install more wireless Internet service centres in the island.
‘This technology is becoming increasingly popular across the world and Wave is now joining in the Wi-Fi revolution,’ said Wave managing director Tim Ringsdore.
The company has confirmed two more hotel locations and intends to set up the service in other public places in the future.
* Wi-Fi technology allows computers to access the Internet at broadband speeds without being connected via a cable to a fixed phone line. Many laptops now come with this technology installed as standard. Customers with laptops without this capability can purchase the additional hardware from computer retailers.
