Lowes are on a high after garden invasion
Thursday 2nd September 2004, 12:00AM BST.
VALE residents Tim and Lisa Lowe received the Garden Invaders one-day treatment yesterday. BBC1′s most popular daytime gardening show, hosted by Charlie Dimmock, today will complete its third local garden makeover in as many days.
She arrived on Monday evening for three days of filming.
Yesterday, the team invaded the Lowes garden which overlooks Rousse headland.
‘I’m having a great time on the island. It’s so nice to be filming with such beautiful views. We couldn’t ask for a nicer setting,’ said Miss Dimmock.
While the show has occupied most of her time on the island, she was able to enjoy a west coast drive to take in the sunset on Monday night.
‘Your island is simply stunning,’ she said.
After two full days of filming, she was looking forward to a night off.
‘When the show’s wrapped up tonight, I intend to go out for a curry.’
Co-producer Isobel Rowley said: ‘While people know how to style their home, they often get stuck on the garden.’
The show gives homeowners the expert advice of top designer Andy Sturgeon, who helps them visualise the garden they want. A team of enthusiastic garden invaders then makes it all happen in a day.
The Lowes were treated to an extensive makeover of the front garden of their cottage.
Mr Sturgeon opted for a modern feel to be in keeping with the contemporary look of the house.
The Lowes were delighted to be selected for the show.
‘We have worked very hard to design the interior of the house just as we want it and the garden will be the icing on the cake to top it all off,’ said Mrs Lowe.
Dave Kirk, the show’s chief invader and project manager, was joined by local volunteers. Brother and sister team Lisa and Shaun Vidamour, from The GreatestScape, joined forces with Bob Carre and Carl Pascall, of Parks and Gardens.
Mr Lowe is an all-round handyman and worked hard with the team throughout the day. In the meantime, his wife was tested on gardening trivia by Charlie Dimmock to win flowers for use in the makeover.
‘I scored 75% on the quiz and won three groups of flowers for the garden,’ said Mrs Lowe.
Mrs Rowley said: ‘We wanted to come to Guernsey because the island has a great reputation for growing and we wanted to give our viewers a feel for local life.
‘We have been given such a warm welcome and have enjoyed a real モcan-doヤ attitude.
‘Even the skip came with a smiley face on it.’
