Top junior wins senior cap

Friday 3rd September 2004, 12:00AM BST.

ISLAND junior champion Jack Mitchell is the only new cap in the Guernsey golf team chosen to defend the Challenge Trophy at Grouville next weekend. Mitchell, 17, has played outstanding golf this summer and was in no way a marginal pick said non-playing captain Steve Turvey.

‘He has been consistently knocking 69s to 72s and regardless of his age the selectors had no qualms about picking him. He did himself no end of good when he represented the Royal in the CI League in Jersey last year when he was five down with six to play against Trevor Gray and managed to get a half.’

The full team is: Andy and Bobby Eggo, David Rowlinson, Steve Mahy, Daniel Bisson, Mick Marley, Nigel Vaudin, David Warr, Jack Mitchell and David Nicolle.

Danny Blondel is reserve.
