Tagging is a boost for safety on site

SCAFFOLDING safety has been improved with the introduction of tagging systems. Access Scaffolding (Guernsey) Ltd has recently been made an authorised distributor for the Scafftag product range.
The company is already using a tagging system at a walkway on the Royal Court development and at St Barnabas.
The system is of particular importance to Access as it allows for an enhanced scaffolding product which can create a safer working environment, said a spokesman for the company.
In the UK, the use of tagging systems is becoming more common and on some sites it is compulsory.
With work-related accidents responsible for 13m. working days being lost every year and one person dying every day, safety in the workplace is of paramount importance. With the introduction of a tagging system, scaffolding safety is increased.
‘The main benefit of tagging a scaffold is it allows the users to be aware when it is complete and what it can be used for.
‘It is also an effective and accurate system for recording scaffold inspections, which is essential when scaffolding is to remain in place for long periods. The tags are also clearly visible and are available for the various types of scaffold erections,’ said the spokesman.
‘With the increased use of scaffolding in Guernsey and the sites becoming larger, improving safety is vital for the construction industry as a whole.’
