‘Stag’ Dale fastest in GB

Monday 5th June 2006, 12:00AM BST.

DALE GARLAND made a winning debut for Birchfield Harriers in the British League Premiership on Satur-day and at the same time posted the fastest time in Britain this season. Garland pushed new England international Ryan Dinham into second place at the SportCity stadium in Manchester, clocking an impressive 50.47.

The Guernseyman was appearing in the ‘Stags’ vest in a bid to get better quality domestic races, altho-ugh he still plans to turn out for his first-claim club, Channel Islands AC, who were also in action on Saturday, winning their Southern League Division Two match in the heart of London.

Despite fielding an inexperienced team comprising largely of under-17s and under-20s, the CIAC team won the five-team round three match by 21 points from host club Thurrock.

The victory lifts them into second place in the table behind still unbeaten Chelmsford, who pipped them in the first round. The six Guernsey members of the CIAC team were Steve Dawes, Mark Mercier, Michael Batiste, Simon Touzeau, Jonny Guille and Matt Loveridge, half of them making their first appearance for the club.
