MooArc’s growth surprises Jamie

AN INNOVATIVE architectural practice has celebrated its 10th birthday. And with 12 people now employed at MooArc, founder Jamie Falla feels ‘slightly taken aback’ at the rate of expansion.

‘It feels great but I never expected us to be in such a strong position so early on,’ he said.

The studio completed 75 jobs in the first six years, which increased to 170 in the following four.

Mr Falla believes that increasing pressure on space for houses and commercial premises will mean the company’s approach will be in demand.

‘The company was formed on the basis that space is a tremendously valuable commodity and on the recognition that living or working areas should be exciting,’ he said.

As well as designing new-builds, MooArc upgrades new homes or links contemporary areas with older properties.

The firm has received awards both locally and internationally.

This includes a project at the founder’s home, which linked a centuries-old barn with a modern extension.

Mr Falla said the company was committed to the next generation of Guernsey’s planners.

‘We have always taken on trainees and consider it crucial to try to ensure that the island plays a part in producing its own architects in the future.’
