Pedal power analysis providing dividends

Tuesday 13th June 2006, 12:00AM BST.

ANN BOWDITCH now has a sweep of five island time-trial records after smashing the women’s 15-mile best. She lowered the mark set by Lyn Coombs in 2002 by two minutes 18 seconds with a time of 36-22.

She now holds the club record at five, 10, 15, 25 and 50 miles.

With power measuring equipment analysing every pedal stroke, Bowditch says the feedback has been invaluable to her this season and she used the data provided very carefully.

‘I have been measuring power for three seasons now and have adjusted my annual programme accordingly.

‘I can now ride 15 miles at the same pace that I could only manage for five miles last year.

‘I’m improving with every race and hope to peak in the second half of the year.’

She now plans a well-earned rest to freshen mentally and physically.

‘As my season does not end until late October I have to carefully structure my training.’
