GUERNSEY’S insurance industry has been receiving interest from around the world. Representatives from GuernseyFinance, in conjunction with delegates from the sector, have travelled to different global events to promote the island as a financial jurisdiction.

These included the British Insurance Brokers’ Association’s Brighton conference, Honolulu’s Risk and Insurance Management Society conference and the specialist captive insurance event, Luxembourg Rendezvous.

‘At all the conferences we attend, we are reinforcing the brand to those who are already aware of our experience and expertise,’ said chief executive Peter Niven.

‘We are also ensuring that a much wider audience sees and understands that Guernsey is able to provide a broad range of financial services and products to an international base.’

Merise Wheatley, Guernsey Insurance Company Management Association chairman, said it was the first time representatives from the island had attended Biba’s conference.

‘It is important to always look at new avenues through which we can spread word of Guernsey’s insurance excellence,’ she said.

‘Discussions over the past year have proved highly successful and led, among other things, to the opportunity to attend this year’s conference.’

Mr Niven said that participation at the Biba event had proved to be highly successful.

‘Our attendance put us in front of a different audience than we are used to and the response was tremendous,’ he said.

‘There has already been an enormous interest shown from UK regional brokers for the insurance products we can provide to their clients and we look forward now to converting this interest into business over the coming months.’

Mr Niven said that it had also been invited to speak at regional conferences of UK brokers.

Mrs Wheatley said attending premier conferences was crucial in helping to showcase the island’s insurance excellence.
