Guernseyman on losing side

LEE SAVIDENT scored seven and opened the batting for the European XI in their historic first match in Rotterdam yesterday. But the Guernsey star finished on the losing side as a strong MCC side won by five wickets.
On an unfamiliar wicket which had a tendency to keep low, Savident opened with Irish international Jeremy Bray.
The Sarnian had faced 10 balls and hit one boundary when he was caught down the leg side by MCC skipper Rob Turner off former Yorkshire and Sussex left-arm quickie, Paul Hutchison.
The European side eventually scrapped their way to 162 all out in 48 overs, a total which the MCC reached with 11.1 overs to spare.
After a few early scares the MCC were seen home by New Zealand test star Chris Cairns who hit an undefeated 61.
Savident did not bowl but did take one catch.
