A positive for industry

A PRIME site in St Martin’s is being redeveloped into a modern environment for light industrial businesses. The Environment Department has approved plans for a development of more than 12,000sq. ft at the former Burbridge site at Les Caches.

Commercial property agent Jones and Partners, which is responsible for letting the light industrial space, said the flexible layout would offer state-of-the-art facilities, large access doors, ample parking and further working or office space if required on the first floor.

Commerce and Employment chief executive Nigel Lewis said the Burbridge site-regeneration project and provision of much needed light industrial space is exactly what Guernsey needs.

‘This is a welcome boost for industry in the island as there are few sites of this stature available,’ he said.

‘For the future of Guernsey industry this type of development, which does not greatly affect the landscape, is excellent news.’

The space can be let to one tenant or can be part-let to multiple ones, depending on the market requirements, in units ranging from 2,420sq. ft to 12,000sq. ft on the ground floor, which can be doubled if a first floor is utilised.

Peter Van de Velde, a director of Jones and Partners, said it was a site with great potential.

‘With notice being served on many of the tenants at the Leale’s Yard site and numerous other companies seeking both competitive rates and modern space in a good location, there will be a high demand for this type of light industrial space.

‘Other sites’ industrial estates – such as Garenne Park – are fully occupied and the redevelopment of the former Burbridge site shows positive signs for light industry in Guernsey and the future of business in the island.’
