OLIVIA COONEY will be the face of a new magazine this summer. The 14-year-old model will feature on the cover of the first edition of Winx and will also be in the TV commercial to launch it.

‘It’s really exciting. I’ve never been in a TV commercial before. This was different to other jobs, it was quite special. When I was in London, I was picked up and dropped off by a chauffeur-driven car,’ said the Ladies’ College pupil.

Winx magazine is based on a cartoon of the same name. It takes place in the magical world of Magix and tells the story of five smart and fashionable teenage fairies – the Winx Club. It has been a huge hit worldwide and has launched its own collection of dolls.

On the magazine cover and commercial, Olivia represents the character of Stella. She had to beat thousands of other hopefuls at a series of auditions in London. And despite the heated competition, it was not all handbags at dawn.

‘Everyone wants that one thing so desperately, but it wasn’t a horrible atmosphere. Everyone understands that they are after a certain look and they know there’s a chance they might not have it.’

Olivia is well known to many of the casting directors and was in the sister magazine for Winx. She has also been the cover girl for Mizz and Disney Witch magazines and has done countless catalogue modelling.

‘Luckily, the casting directors had remembered me.’

Olivia wants modelling to be her future and would like to do some catwalk work for her favourite labels, such Dolce & Gabbana and Dior.

She would also love to do the variety of projects done by Kate Moss.

‘Modelling is my dream. I know it’s unreliable, but if you get to know people and make as many contacts as possible, you get a better chance of landing that job.’
