Silvestri plays for GB

A GUERNSEYMAN has represented Great Britain in an international tournament. Marco Silvestri caught the attention of the Great Britain selectors with his performances in last year’s Guernsey International Open Fastpitch Tournament.
The 23-year-old actor had hit a grand slam in the final, but it was not enough as his Rangers side went down to USAF Lakenheath.
After training with the British squad at RAF Upper Heyford, he was picked to play in the recent Bill E. Jefferies Tournament in Haarlem, Holland.
‘There were some Great Britain guys there at last year’s tournament and they approached me and I went and trained with them,’ said Silvestri.
‘We did OK at the tournament. We came fourth out of six.
‘We gave a good account of ourselves but sadly the results didn’t really reflect how we played.’
The competition featured national teams and top club sides from Europe. It was won by the strong Czech national outfit who are set to come over and play in August’s International Fastpitch Tour-nament.
Great Britain’s best result was their defeat of Belgium in their second game.
‘Personally I think I played pretty well,’ said Silvestri.
‘My fielding was flawless. I batted OK but the pitching was a different class.
‘There were some seriously talented guys over there. I hope I get picked again.
‘You can only wait for the phone to ring.’
