Robilliard quickest, but disqualified

Monday 10th July 2006, 12:00AM BST.

KYLIE ROBILLIARD was robbed of another likely national title by an eagle-eyed judge in Gateshead on Friday. Robilliard comfortably won her semi-final at the ESAA Sainsbury’s National Championships and was the fastest qualifier.

But within moments of clocking an impressive 14.35sec. she was disqualified for her trailing leg going over the line on hurdles eight, nine and 10.

‘She has been warned about it before,’ said Kylie’s mother, Michelle.

She received some consolation by being asked to lead the Leicestershire team in the traditional parade of teams at the huge two-day event featuring the best athletes in the country.

Guernsey’s three CI representatives all placed seventh in their respective events. Erica Bodman cleared 1.66m in the senior girls’ high jump, Kimberley Gleeson 5.29m in the intermediate long jump and Michael Batiste 59.0sec. in the intermediate 400m hurdles.

Jersey’s two throwing stars, Jamie Stevenson and Zane Duquemin, won gold and silver in the intermediate shot and junior discus respectively.

Meanwhile, the Channel Islands men’s team moved to the top of Southern Division Two with a good win in Walton. The highlight was a fantastic half-second personal best for 400m runner Nathan Stevens, who clocked 49.6.
