Current crop could be the making of club

THE Brehaut brothers and fellow Les Beaucamps student Chloe Huxster produced the outstanding performances at the Healthspan GIAAC junior track and field championships. Staged over two evenings at Foote’s Lane and in conjunction with the colts championships, the total number approached 120 – a phenomenal rise on past years.
Richard Cowling, head of the GIAAC junior track and field section, said he was delighted by the depth of performance.
‘If these kids stay together, it will be the making of this club for the next few years,’ he said.
Among Huxster’s hat-trick of victories in the under-13s’ section was a superb time of 11.6sec. for the 70-metre hurdles, a performance that should lift her to number four in the country.
In the same race, Robyn Wild and Ciara Fossey clocked 12.3 – top-30 UK performances.
‘Chloe, Ciara and Robyn have worked extremely hard in winter training and in fact all those who did are now getting their reward,’ said Cowling, who was most impressed by Huxster’s sprint hurdling.
‘She doesn’t realise how good she is,’ he added.
Oliver Brehaut is another to make an impact on the national rankings and produced the sixth-best under-13 javelin throw this year with his new personal best of 34.13 metres.
An age group up, James Brehaut underlined his terrific versatility with quality wins in the sprint hurdles, javelin, shot, long jump and high jump.
Michael Steele-Moore and Kelly Loveridge were two others to shine in a wide range of disciplines, while in the distance events nobody could get near Will Bodkin, who completed an easy 800/1,500 double.
A highlight of the colts championships was some terrific middle-distance running by the strong under-11 contingent.
In the girls’ race, Kristina Neves showed her superb stamina from the swimming pool to take 4.4sec. off the record with a well-paced run of 2-49.6.
Behind her, runner-up Megan Chapple also ducked under the old record and third-placed Chloe Truffitt was just outside it.
All three are highly-promising distance-running talents, as is George Mason, who took the equivalent boys’ mark with a 2-41.7, 3.2sec. inside the former mark.
Logan Fallaize, Christian Le Ray and Marco Petralia also went under three minutes.
