A LOCAL mother says she can help Wayne Rooney get to sleep like a baby – without leaving the vacuum cleaner on all night. Consumer journalist Sam Oakley has sent him a CD she developed last year which features the noise of vacuum cleaners, tumble dryers and fan heaters.

Rooney has revealed that he cannot sleep without the whirr of a vacuum cleaner.

But that drives girlfriend Coleen McLoughlin mad and she has banned him from listening to them at home.

Ms Oakley, 39, found that domestic appliances were the best way to soothe babies to sleep when she had trouble getting three-month-old son George to bed down.

The tests were carried out with the help of midwives and tiny patients from the Princess Elizabeth Hospital.

The 72-minute CD has been endorsed by doctors, midwives and the National Childbirth Trust for babies up to 18 months.

Ms Oakley, whose TV credits include consumer show Watchdog, said: ‘We seriously think our CD could be the solution to Wayne’s sleeping problems. He has the exact same sleeping issues as George and a lot of babies.

‘George was three months old when we first started to notice that the sound of our tumble-dryer seemed to help him nod off into a gentle slumber. We started to run our tumble dryer to settle him for his late morning and afternoon naps, during the evening and the middle of the night.

‘The results were amazing, but our electricity bill was sky high.

‘It seemed a logical step to make a recording of the tumble dryer.

‘There is no reason why our CD shouldn’t work for an adult footballer who has trouble sleeping, too.’

Ms Oakley’s company, Little Sleepy Head, has sent a CD to the England star, care of Manchester United.

‘Hopefully, the CD will stop Wayne destroying hairdryers and give Coleen some peace and quiet, too.’

A spokesman for Rooney declined to comment on whether the player would try the CD.
