Douzaine council loses its leader
Thursday 20th July 2006, 12:00AM BST.
THE chairman of the Island Douzaine Council has quit his post. Bill Robilliard resigned at a specially convened meeting of Torteval douzaine on Monday evening.
He was not present, but had sent a letter.
The douzaine is thought to have been unhappy with the way he was carrying out his role and his position had been precarious for some time.
He narrowly avoided being ousted about three weeks ago when some douzaine members called a vote of no confidence against him.
Torteval senior constable Mary Singer declined to comment yesterday.
Dean of the douzaine Roydon Falla said he was not prepared to comment until the Guernsey Press had spoken to Mr Robilliard, but he was unavailable yesterday.
Currently vice-dean of the douzaine, Mr Robilliard was elected by his fellow members to represent his parish’s interests on the council, formerly the Island Douzaine Forum.
Douzaine representative in the States for his parish for years until the post was abolished in 2004, Mr Robilliard was the leading voice in the establishment and running of the council.
During his years in the States, Mr Robilliard, an accountant by profession, served as president of the Income Tax Authority.
