Town ready for carnival
Friday 21st July 2006, 12:00AM BST.
THE annual Town Carnival gets under way tomorrow with a week of street entertainment, trade stalls and other fun and games. The main events will kick off with the opening parade starting at the Lower Pollet taxi rank at 11.30am. Made up of dancers, cheerleaders and brass bands, it will proceed through Town to Church Square and return via the Arcade.
Event organiser Jane Bristowe said her committee had worked hard to secure a top range of professional entertainers.
The Event Group has been busy putting up bunting all across Town in preparation for the festivities. Highlights of next week will include Carnival favourites Sonny and Rainbow, the clowns, Punch and Judy, the Fidgety Feet strolling jazz band and award-winning solo steel drum player Jamma.
On Tuesday the Fire and Rescue Service will have a dominant presence in Town and on Thursday afternoon the waiters’ and waitresses’ popular race will be held.
And islanders will be kept up to speed about goings-on by the familiar hollers of town crier Alan Myatt.
