Trio deserve their school places

Saturday 22nd July 2006, 12:00AM BST.

THREE of the island’s most promising girl footballers have been promoted to the GFA’s Deutsche Bank School of Soccer. Candice Crowson, Kay Wheatley (both Les Beaucamps) and Christina Sines (St Peter Port) are all of Year 7 age.

The talented trio took part in a series of turn-up-and-play sessions organised by the GFA as it pushes to establish a girls’ youth league.

Football development officer Chris Pringle said the scheme, which attracted 30-plus girls to some sessions, worked well.

‘I was impressed by the level of commitment. Clearly the demand for girls’ football is growing and we urgently need to provide the opportunities for these players.

‘I will be talking both to schools and clubs to achieve this.

‘I was particularly impressed with Candice, Kay and Chrissie and they thoroughly deserve their chance in the School of Soccer.’

Pringle said that more development initiatives were planned for girls and primary school-age football.
