TV’s Hugh in islands for fish shoot

Thursday 27th July 2006, 12:00AM BST.

CHEF and sustainability expert Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, of ‘River Cottage’ fame, is in the middle of a trip to the Channel Islands, filming for a new series on cooking fish. He spent two days in Guernsey and is currently in Alderney, where yesterday he was shooting the preparation of a beach barbecue at Clonque Bay.

‘I was hearing a lot about Alderney on the boat over and it’s really lived up to expectations. It’s very beautiful,’ he said.

He was joined by Alderney’s Juan Salado, a marine biologist, who volunteers for The Wildlife Trust.

Mr Salado cooked a dish from his native region of northern Spain that so impressed Mr Fearnley-Whittingstall that he has decided to include it in his next book, The River Cottage Fish, to be published by Bloomsbury in 2007.

The dish, named ‘llampares’, is a slow-cooked stew of limpets, winkles, peppers, tomatoes, onions and chorizos.

‘Juan’s recipe really puts mine to shame,’ said Mr Fearnley-Whittingstall.

The filming is for inclusion on a DVD and may also appear on television.
