A show to remember for newcomer Jaymee-Leigh
Friday 28th July 2006, 12:00AM BST.
THE 2006 Guernsey Riding & Hunt Club Annual Show will be one to remember for new member Jaymee-Leigh Weysom on Templedruid Saturn who won the junior leading-rider trophy at her very first show. Notable performances were also recorded by Tracy Bufton on Speed, who took the senior leading-rider trophy, Sue Brown on Brownslaw Landgraf who won the puissance by jumping the wall at 1.40m and Lesley Martin on Liberty who claimed the Miss Money-penny senior championship.
Meanwhile, Leanne Gallienne on Bees Knees held off stiff competition to win the Dalida junior championship.
Good weather together with excellent courses designed by Barry Besnard and superb going all contributed to a very good standard being witnessed by the large crowd who went to Les Bordages, St Saviour’s, at the weekend.
Large entries produced some exciting contests and the visit from the Island Dog Training Club in the horse and hound class added to the excellent entertainment provided by top local equestrians of all ages.
Panel judge Gail Simon and commentator Barry Bartlett remarked on the high standard of jumping at the show and were delighted that the classes were so hotly contested, with the spoils evenly shared.
Brown’s win in the puissance was well deserved and went the full five rounds as she took the honours from Vicky Travers on Logique with club president Jan Coomer taking third place after spectacularly sitting upon the wall in Humpty Dumpty style when Ortonrigg decided he would rather she went without him in the fourth round.
A donation from the proceeds of the show will be made to the International League for the Protection of Horses so the club are proud that all the very well looked after equine competitors have helped to assist their less fortunate friends.
