Rallies demonstrate that things auger well for future

Monday 31st July 2006, 12:00AM BST.

THE Guernsey branch of the British Show Jumping Association have held a series of show jumping rallies at their Chemin Le Roi showground during the season. They cater for all ages and standards of rider, horse and pony, starting with the nursery section for junior novice riders on 12.2h and under ponies going through the ranks to senior foxhunter level.

The nursery section has been particularly well supported which augers well for the future of the club. It has been dominated by Catherine Gaudion riding The Hale Viola and she has proved almost unbeatable in rallies so far this season.

In the 12.2 section, the honours have been shared between Jodie Travers and Sarah Jackson on two ponies apiece.

The junior combination of Vicky Guillot riding Osmaston Guinness have been improving steadily and now have several good wins under their belt. Multiple winners also include Charlotte Croft and Ballygawley Lad, Penny Freeman and Sheer Panache and Jess Russell riding Heathersombes Last Chance.

Jodie Travers and her relatively new pony, Rock Dragon, have gained enormous confidence, scoring an impressive win over the in-form Jenny Winfindale on Kilrea Boy, who had won most of their previous classes, in the junior 1.10m class. The jumps rose to a huge 1.20m.

Turning to the novice end of the senior section, Katie Fallaize and her new mount, the young JM Breezer, have made excellent progress.

Michelle Robilliard riding Ad Lib, Sam de Jersey on Stonewood Solaan and Tracey Bufton with Speed have won several classes apiece.

In the 0.85 to 1.05m open section, there have been notable wins for Nicky Wallbridge riding Waterford Flight, Lesley Martin and her big-jumping grey, Liberty, Lisa Blanchard with Dalesco, Emma Dorey on Storm Alert and Kate Lawlor riding Aspen Gem.

Trevor de Garis riding Oasis Gold Star is always in the ribbons, as are Sanna-Liisa Valtenan with Larsen du Home, Louise Warr and Iago du Tertre Janson and Sarah Chamberlain with Lino du Moulin.

The Grade-B section is always closely fought between Amelia Jeffrey on Loftsome Moonlight, Lisa Torode with Jouvence du Sire and Donna Smith on Tangley Tom.

The Grade-A and the 1.20m opens have been dominated by Emma Dorey riding Snaffles Purple Patch, who are unbeaten in rallies at these heights.

The 1.20m tracks have been built up to UK standards, with the jump-off in the penultimate rally rising to an impressive 1.35m with equally wide spreads, Dorey just came out on top from Jeffrey on Loftsome Moonlight.
