Doll’s house collection moves to a bigger home
Wednesday 2nd August 2006, 12:00AM BST.
THE Treasure Chest has moved to Oatlands. The shop, which is owned by Zoe Falla and Dave de Jersey, sells accessories for doll’s houses, cards and scrap book materials.
The premises also house the doll’s house museum, which was previously sited at Sausmarez Manor.
It includes 45 houses, the oldest of which is 150 years old.
Since Ms Falla took over, she has added a further six.
She admitted that she did not have a particular interest until she took over.
‘The collection grows on you,’ she said.
Those on display include a public house, a flower mill, a fisherman’s cottage, a cider press and some Edwardian houses.
‘We’ve got a whole room dedicated to people who have doll’s houses. We cater a small amount for children but it’s mainly for adult collectors.’
The collection was started by Patricia Borwick in Lihou and Ms Falla bought it with Mr de Jersey in 2002.
They made the move to Oatlands because they needed more room.
‘There wasn’t enough space and also a large part of the shop is for accessories.’
While local trade is good, Ms Falla hoped that the new premises would attract more visitors.
