Local resident is new Press chairman

Friday 4th August 2006, 12:00AM BST.

LOCAL resident Terry Holder, 61, has been appointed chairman of Guernsey Press Co. He takes over from John Averty, chief executive of the Guiton Group, owner of the Guernsey Press and Jersey Evening Post.

In addition, Mr Holder will fulfil the added role of ‘publisher’ of the Guernsey Press, working alongside the management and editor Richard Digard in an advisory and consultative capacity.

The Graham family, ultimate proprietors of the Guiton Group, believe it is in the best interests of both Channel Islands daily newspapers and the individual communities they serve that they should each have a local publisher.

The new appointment means the Guernsey Press, after a gap of eight years, once again has a local chairman.

Mr Holder, who came to Guernsey in 1990, has more than 40 years’ experience of regional newspaper publishing in various parts of the UK.

Mr Averty has been appointed publisher of the Jersey Evening Post, while continuing as chairman.
