IAN POWELL and Tom Hollingsworth took Guernsey’s medal tally to three at the ASA National and Youth Championships in Sheffield at the weekend. After the qualifiers, Powell was seen as a strong contender for the open 200m butterfly title, but in the final he was pushed into third by Liverpool’s Michael Rock and Loughbo-rough’s Matthew Edwards, the Sarnian clocking 2-02.24 to the winner’s 2-01.68.
Hollingsworth’s second medal of the championships came in the 100 butterfly, in which he finished third with a time of 56.57.
In the open section of the same event, he placed 14th-fastest, while Powell qualified for the final with the sixth fastest time.
In the final the Beau Sejour Barracuda moved up one place and stopped the clock at 55.63sec., 23 hundredths quicker than his semi-final swim.
