Vandals attack children’s artwork

Saturday 9th September 2006, 12:00AM BST.

VANDALS have attacked children’s artwork at Little Bears Pre-school. They also drew on the walls.

Owner Karen Stockreiter said nothing had been taken, but whoever entered the building had done a good job of making a mess.

‘It appears that they broke in through the kitchen window and used children’s crayons to draw and graffiti over the walls – really we were lucky, it could have been worse. But it’s not nice to know that someone has been through our stuff.’

It is believed the vandals entered Les Adams Methodist Church premises through the window that was closed, but not locked.

They took a brown crayon from a pot on top of a cupboard and drew anarchy symbols – an A inside a circle – over the walls.

‘We don’t think the latch was turned and the window is completely out of the view of any other properties around here.

‘We were broken into about three years ago and they stole a stereo and some money from the church. We haven’t had any trouble since but you just don’t know – they could have been hanging around for weeks.’

Mrs Stockreiter said that the attack was compounded by her having to clean up at Les Adams on the eve of an open day at Daisy Chain, a pre-school for needy children that is opening in St Saviour’s next week.

‘It’s so inconvenient. I’m still scrubbing the crayon off the walls and my morning has been completely wasted when I should have been organising tomorrow’s open morning.

‘It’s a shame. We’re trying to help families and young children, which is much needed out this way, and my day has been wasted unnecessarily.

‘We are quite determined that Daisy Chain is going to be a success – it’s really just an inconvenience at the end of the day.’
