DIGITAL printer Island Scan has reached a milestone in Internet orders. The company has sold its 2,000th digital canvas print through its ebusiness website, www.digpics.co.uk.

Managing director Andre Digard said there had been a big increase in popularity, which he attributed to the simplicity of the website.

‘Weddings, family holiday snaps and pets seem to be the most

popular subjects and the canvases are available in a variety of sizes.

‘People are able to choose the frame size, pay online and then upload their photographs. We are able to turn our orders around in three to four days, so most customers receive their order within a week.

‘Completing our first 2,000 orders is quite a milestone.’

Mr Digard said that printing methods and customer requirements had changed dramatically over the past few years.

‘Island Scan has successfully adapted to find niche markets.

‘As digital technology has emerged, we have changed our core business to concentrate on on-demand, short-run printing.

‘The canvas prints are just one element of the work we are now doing.’

Mr Digard said moving to new premises 18 months ago and purchasing the latest equipment had allowed the business to grow to meet increased demand, particularly in the online sector.

He said the core business would continue to be based in Guernsey, but expected the greatest growth to happen through the Internet.

‘It generally jumps about 50% a year,’ he said.

The company now employs nine staff, compared with six two years ago.

‘We’re trying to get some more products online, such as personalised wrapping paper and Christmas cards,’ he said.

‘We also want to be able to offer the complete package for weddings, such as invitations and seating plans.’
