Man charged with attack on brother
Monday 5th February 2007, 12:00AM GMT.
A MAN is due to appear in court today after an extensive police operation over the weekend into an alleged serious assault. Two Town streets were cordoned off as officers mounted door-to-door inquiries.
There was widespread speculation over the weekend that a man had been stabbed but police today said that no weapon was understood to have been used.
The condition of a man seriously hurt in the early hours of Saturday is improving.
Kieran Allen, 21, was taken to the accident and emergency department after he was allegedly attacked in George Street, St Peter Port, at about 1am on Saturday.
Mr Allen is in intensive care but his condition is today described as stable.
His younger brother, Tristan, 18, is due to appear in the Magistrate’s Court this morning charged with assault.
Another man who was arrested in relation to the incident was released after interview.
The alleged assault took place outside Cliff Ogier’s George Street home.
But despite it supposedly occurring on his doorstep, the 68-year-old heard nothing.
‘I was upstairs watching TV with my wife. Neither me nor Shan heard anything.
‘She woke up about 6.30am, looked out the window and said that the road had been cordoned off. I got up and went downstairs.
‘CID told me it was a young lad about 17 who was badly hurt.
‘I’ve lived here for 11 years now and seen all sorts happen, but I don’t think anyone on the street saw what happened last night from the ones we’ve spoken to.’
Following the incident, police closed George Street and Allez Street until just before 10am on Saturday. Keith Duquemin, who lives towards the bottom of Allez Street, estimated that the incident must have taken place before 1am.
‘The collectors usually take the rubbish between 12.45am and 1am, so whatever happened must have happened before then.
‘We’ve asked the police what was going on but they weren’t saying anything.’
Dave Chapman, 35, returned home to the area at about 1.15am. He said he thought he had just missed what had happened.
‘I got back home and there was loads of cops around. All I saw was one woman and a baby being taken away.’
