Furious Ogier stays in charge
Saturday 3rd March 2007, 12:00AM GMT.
MICKY OGIER is in charge of Bels’ team against Rovers today despite a week of acrimony and upheaval in the Priaulx League champions’ camp. The Bels coach handed in his resignation at the start of the week only for it to be rejected by the powers that be at the Track club.
And after a clear-the-air meeting with his players on Thursday night, he decided to stay on.
Ogier declined to comment on the cause of the dispute saying simply: ‘That’s between me and Bels.’
And when asked if he will be in charge of them at Port Soif today, he replied: ‘You’ll have to be there to see.’
The in-house dispute stems from Ogier’s decision to go skiing with his assistant coach, Shane Totty, and five Bels first-teamers – Joby Bourgaize, Sam Cochrane, Paul Ramsden, Simon Marley and Rhys Gower.
None was available for their home league match with Sylvans last Saturday.
After failing to get the game re-arranged, Ogier was apparently incensed to learn that not only did it go ahead but that it was moved to St Peter’s due to the Track being waterlogged.
Bels vice-president Andy Robert declined to elaborate on the reason behind the spat but did say: ‘He’s in charge of the game tomorrow.
‘He had offered his resignation but it was not accepted.
‘He had a players meeting last night and ”Budlo” phoned me this morning to say he was taking the game tomorrow.
‘Lets just say it’s probably been a difficult season all-round. When you are winning everything it is wonderful.’
Things have certainly not gone Bels’ way this season after they won the Priaulx Cup for the first time in nearly half-a-century last year. They sit third inb the table, 10 points behind league leaders North.
Little has gone right for them this term.
They have suffered with long-term injuries to promising young striker Billy Page and Paul O’Neill who have both been out all season.
Influential young midfielder Ben Coulter has also been troubled by injury and has now been ruled out for the season while Charles Pinsard picked up a knee problem during Bels’ defeat at Sylvans at the weekend.
On top of that island playmaker Scott Bradford will miss the rest of the season through suspension for spitting at an opponent and island striker Marc McGrath is also due a 30-day suspension.
