‘Focus is needed’ against strugglers
Saturday 31st March 2007, 12:00AM BST.
GUERNSEY’S inspiration in their last home game – the impish South African Divon Crouse – is missing from the side that travels to the UK today for their final away match of the Powergen London Three South West league campaign. The match against struggling Effingham and Leatherhead points to another win for Andy Bailey’s improving side.
‘Effingham are just above the relegation zone so will be going out to ensure their league position,’ he said.
‘We are more than capable of winning and should win well, but if we are not fully focused and ready to front up to them, they are more than capable of turning us over.’
After strong performances in the last game, both Crouse and forward David McGall are unavailable as they are attending weddings.
‘However, their absence shows our strength in depth as Lol [Hill-Tout] and Harrie [Marais] have both played very well this season and will be looking to stake a claim to retain their positions for the rest of the season.
‘Our defence has been very strong recently, which gives us a great foundation to build on during the game. However, I thought our backline produced its best performance of the season last time out, so we will be looking to improve on that game Saturday.
‘The combination of Jordy Reynalds and Dan Taylor-Edwards in midfield worked really well and not only were we creating chances, we were finishing them.’
